Nature bestowed upon me yet again another valuable lesson. It began with the sighting of a raccoon, and now I held its skull in my hands. A moment prior, I had started to share my diverse array of masks, the many personas I've worn in this life. The masks that once shielded me, now serve as a reminder to embrace my authentic self, knowing I am multidimensional.
As I study the raccoon, I see a creature of wisdom, teaching me about masks and disguises, agility and seeking guidance, fearless questioning and balanced curiosity. Its mask holds a deeper meaning, reminding us that no one is ever truly as they seem, even to themselves. We, too, possess the freedom to assume various identities in different aspects of life, effortlessly changing them like garments.
The raccoon has been guiding me toward the art of masking, transforming, and becoming adept at navigating the roles I inhabit. Masks hold great power, unlocking altered states and revealing hidden truths.
Their curiosity knows no bounds, a trait with both rewards and risks. Following curiosity can unveil new wonders, yet must be tempered with caution to avoid trouble. Another lesson I was soon going to get handed to me.
I was unaware of these teachings before discovering the raccoon skull. However, its profound unknown lessons felt as they already resonated deeply within. Knowing that I held a teacher and answers I’m ready to see.
As I ventured through this unfamiliar yet strangely familiar place, I felt a connection to my ancestors and a deeper aspect of my spirit. Immersed in the river's embrace, I basked in the caress of the sun and the gentle touch of the wind. Gracefully as I could, I passed by schools of fish, feeling at one with the flow of life.
Yet slowness I shed, a playful decree,
Dumbass turned badass, I ventured free.
Across the river, a daring stride,
Unaware of the power, the river's fierce tide.
Caught in the undercurrent's relentless pull,
Nails clinging to a tree, life's thread full.
Witnessing nature's fury, a humbled plea,
Forgiveness sought, in this watery decree.
Stranded on that tree I was attempting to get to, Melanie and Pepper offered their support, seeking a way to reach me within their boundaries. With each breath and a meditative focus on the lasso I held, I soothed my nervous system. I found solace in an ungrounded moment, grounding myself in an unexpected way. Melanie and Pepper persisted in their efforts, while I discovered a safe route back. Balancing on lifeless trees upon the water's surface, I carefully walked, inch by inch, drawing myself closer to solid ground. And finally, with relief, I landed upon a sturdy tree trunk awaiting me on the shore.
In that moment, an empty turtle shell caught my eye, a serendipitous encounter. It whispered yet another lesson, urging me to slow down and survey my surroundings before forging ahead. And so, I acknowledged its wisdom. I paused, expressing gratitude to everything around me, before embarking on the hike up to the trail. Climbing the exposed roots of a towering tree, I made my way up a steep incline, steadily reclaiming my path toward Melanie. Shoutout to Pepper, she truly shined her light during that whole experience. Best. Dog. Ever.
Terrifying and exhilarating intertwined in this singular experience. Nature, in its infinite wisdom, gave me profound insights through encounters with the raccoon and the river's might. I emerged humbled and transformed yet again, embracing my authentic self while understanding the importance of caution amidst curiosity. Life's lessons are ever-present, waiting to be discovered and integrated into the journey.
In the dance of life, as we gracefully sway,
May the raccoon's wisdom guide our way.
And may the river's flow forever remind,
To trust in ourselves, to seek and find.
Nature's poetry, forever weaves,
Lessons learned, our souls retrieve.
In unity with Earth's majestic art,
We find our place, a grateful heart.
