The Power of Community

Updated: May 22, 2023

I believe in the power of community.

But does anyone else think about how often we throw the word "community" around? Do we truly understand what it means? What is community? I believe that at its core, community is about people coming together to support and uplift one another. It's about creating a space where individuals can be authentically themselves, where they can share their joys and sorrows, and where they can find a sense of liberation.

Audre Lorde's quote, "Without community, there is no liberation," speaks volumes of the importance of community in our lives. Liberation, whether it's personal or collective, can only happen when we are connected to others. We need the support and understanding of a community to truly feel free.

Community is about connection and belonging. It's about feeling seen and heard by others, and being willing to see and hear them in return. It's about creating a space where everyone feels valued and respected.

As a yoga & intuitive movement instructor, sound facilitator, and creative visionary, I've seen firsthand the power of community. When we come together for dance or sound healing session, we create a space where we can let go of our individual concerns and focus on the collective energy of the group. We can share our experiences, our struggles, and our triumphs, and find comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone.

Creating spaces where people can come together as a community is essential for our well-being. It allows us to find support, healing, and joy in the company of others. It helps us to feel connected to something greater than ourselves, and to find meaning and purpose in our lives.

So, let's continue to use the word "community" with intention and understanding. Let's create spaces where we can come together to celebrate life and all that it contains, from joy to grief to darkness. Let's remember that without community, there is no liberation.
